How I Style My Short Hair

Short hair can be so much fun to style, but can be tricky sometimes, too! My biggest secret? I have watched so many YouTube videos on styling short hair and adding that volume over the years! Kate from The Small Things Blog is my favorite beauty gal and you've probably noticed I've talked about her many times on here. She has really taught me a lot when it comes to getting the right hair style. If you are not following her, go do that after reading this post! :) Click here for her Instagram.

Let me say, I am not a beauty expert, but I think I've found a few good tips to share with you!

  •  First, a root boost can be your best friend! (Or at least it is mine!) I find that my hair works best when there is product at the root for it to get that "lift." The Aquage Uplifting Foam is a game changer. I have yet to love anything more! (Tip: I always try to use the 20% off coupon from Ulta!)
  • Second, Dry. Shampoo. This is great because it is a dry spray that adds texture. If you have clean hair, your hair might not work well the first day, so adding a bit of dry shampoo to your hair will help your style to stick. Plus, you might be able to get away with an extra day of not washing your hair!
  •  Third, I like to use a straightener to get my curls. Some girls prefer curling wands for their waves, but my hair sticks best with the straightener. Unless if my hair stylist does my hair, then she will use a wand, but I use the straightener on myself. I leave my very bottom layer of hair, the layer closest to your neck, straightened. No one will know it's not curled ;)

My biggest tip for this part is to STRAIGHTEN YOUR ENDS! I straighten the ends before I begin curling and it makes a big difference! I just straighten about an inch of the ends of my hair and I get those cute waves.

  • Last, I tease the roots! Backcombing/teasing/ratting, however you want to call it, adds that extra volume and helps your hair to not be too flat on your head. Here is a link to a great tutorial that taught me! After you tease, try raking your hands throughout your hair (slightly!) to loosen those waves!

Follow up with your favorite hairspray! My current favorite is less than $5! My mom is hooked on it, too! It's so good!

I hope you have enjoyed this post! If you have any questions or need any extra tips, feel free to reach out! And if you have any tips to share, please do! I'd love to learn more!
